Environment

Animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of climate change. It also contributes to other forms of environmental degradation (such as water pollution, water shortage, ocean dead zones, deforestation, soil erosion and biodiversity loss), which lead to global food shortages and species extinction.

A 2015 Chatham House report states that almost 15% of global emissions are caused by the livestock sector, which is a major driver of climate change. The report states that reducing global meat consumption is critical to keeping global warming below the ‘danger level’ of a two degrees Celsius rise.
